Workshop
2nd International Workshop on Data Value  - DataValue 2019

17 - 19 September, 2019 - Vienna, Austria

In conjunction with the 11th International Joint Conference on Knowledge Discovery, Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management - IC3K 2019

CO-CHAIRS

Judie Attard
Trinity College Dublin
Ireland

Brief Bio
Dr Judie Attard is a research fellow in the Knowledge and Data Engineering Group in the ADAPT research centre in Trinity College, Dublin. In February 2018 she has been awarded a 2-year EDGE Marie Sklodowska-Curie COFUND fellowship with a research project “OptimusPrime – Optimising Data Value Chains”. This project targets the end-to-end optimisation of data value chains/networks through the development of a decision support tool based on data value monitoring. Dr. Attard holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Bonn. Her thesis covered open (government) data, its re-use and exploitation, and also how value can be created on a data product. Judie was awarded her M.App.Sc by the National University of Ireland, Galway. Her work was related to the Digital.Me EU ICT-FP7 funded project within the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI, Galway). Judie attained her B.Sc in Computer Science and AI from the University of Malta. Dr. Attard has co-organised a workshop on Data Literacy in the WebScience 2015 conference which was extended to a special call for the Journal of Community Informatics, the 1st Data Value Workshop at the SEMANTiCS 2018 Conference, and the Data-Driven Government: Creating Value from Big and Open Linked Data Track for the HICSS 2019 conference.
Rob Brennan

Brief Bio
Dr. Rob Brennan is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computing, Dublin City University and a Funded Investigator in data governance, value and quality in the ADAPT Centre. He is also a visiting academic in the Centre for Innovative Human Systems, School of Psychology where he works on human factors in governance systems. He is an executive board member of the Artificial Intelligence Association of Ireland (AIAI) and an editorial board member of the International Journal on Semantic Web and Information Systems (IJSWIS). Previously he was a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Computer Science Trinity College, Dublin. He has been involved in EC framework projects since FP4 as coordinator, work package leader and researcher. His main research topics are data governance, data value, data quality, semantic mapping and data curation. In addition to his academic career he has seven years industrial R&D experience in the enterprise software and telecommunications industries, having worked for Ericsson (Ericsson Network Management research centre), Lake Communications, Critical Path software and two start-ups. He has been a chair or co-chair of 8 conferences and workshops including the ODBASE and AICS conferences. He completed his PhD at Dublin City University in 2005,. He is the author of over 90 research papers including 22 journal articles. He is also an editor or named contributor to 5 international standards on internet and telecommunications technology at the OMG, IETF, 3GPP and TMF.

SCOPE

Data exploitation is a crucial part of any enterprise information system. Data value chains are one model for data exploitation, but many organisations still struggle to extract value from their data. Emerging forms of value-driven data governance could unlock value from data sources, but this requires advances in tools and methods for monitoring and analysing data assets in order to quantify their value. This second international workshop will bring together data stakeholders to create awareness and further understanding of the untapped value that data can yield. This will aid the data value research community in advancing the definition of data value, metrics for quantifying the value of data, value-driven data governance, standards, and validation of existing models for data value.
